In Song of Songs, the bride’s cheeks are likened to the halves of a pomegranate as blossoming pomegranates indicated the awakening of love. It’s protective rind, red flesh, sweet juice, multitude of seeds, and restorative properties has inspired many a poet and lover through the ages. The Bridegroom in the fourth chapter of Song of Songs exclaimed, full of praise and adoration, “A garden locked is my sister, my spouse, a spring shut in, a fountain sealed. Your plants are an orchard with pomegranates …”

The pomegranate has also been revered for centuries as a religious symbol of resurrection and new life. With more than 600 seeds packed within it's crimson walls, the pomegranate has been an artistic symbol of fertility and abundance. But it’s the juice of this fruit, with its sweet-sour qualities and nutritional benefits that captured the imagination of cooks and researchers alike.

Pomegranates occur in the Bible in a number of contexts. They were linked to the Temple of old where they gloriously adorned the pillars at its entrance and were also, by divine instruction, attached to the skirt of the High priest. These colourful and decorative pomegranates were alternated with small golden bells which symbolically portrayed the Fruit and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Imagine this, they were even brought back by the spies who spied out the Promised Land to be placed on show before the entire congregation.

As stated the pomegranate was highly recommended in ancient times for it's medicinal properties and was admired for it's prolific seeds representing fertility and regeneration. The pomegranate is considered a “super fruit” because it is tremendously rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are substances that may protect your cells against the effects of free radicals. Free radicals can damage cells, and play a role in heart disease, cancer and other diseases. Just as antioxidants protect our bodies from free radicals, the love we find within the body of our Messiah also protects us from the spiritual free radicals that all of us are exposed to everyday, which can damage and destroy us from within. May the fruit of love, symbolized by the pomegranate, be always found in abundance in your life.

The history of Holy Anointing Oils with the Jewish faith ultimately speak of Christ and His finished work.

Olive oil comes from the olive fruit after it has undergone an extreme process of manhandling and crushing. When the fruit is first pressed the oil producer only gets a white sap which has a very bitter taste. In order to get the oil and get rid of the bitter taste both the fruit and the seed have to be crushed by a great weight in what is known as an olive press. This undertaking we believe is a direct and symbolic representation of the way Jesus was crushed under the burden and weight of our sin and the wrath of God directed towards that sin. The consequence of this crushing He received can be seen as Him becoming the Holy Anointing Oil that is responsible for healing and setting us free today.

Holy Anointing Oils were no stranger in Yeshua's life on earth either. We see this in Luke chapter 4 where He is anointed at the beginning of His ministry by a woman and again at the end by Mary of Bethany before He is crucified. The anointing of oil is also mentioned in many other places in the scriptures, both in the Old and New Testaments, to signify special occasions like a major initiation, an endorsement, a significant and intimate event, a dedication, or to encourage faith when a prayer for deliverance and healing is performed.
